Dear Sooner Model A Club Members,

Happy October to all of our Model A friends.

The monthly opportunities to eat with our Model A friends have been very successful. Breakfast at McDonalds every Monday morning at 6:30am has a solid following. The Ladies Lunch, on the second Tuesday of each month, for the ladies only, has been well-attended since beginning in June. The monthly breakfast at Bella’s Kitchen began in August, but the Editor did not know it was a monthly event, on the third Saturday of each month, so it was not in the Schedule. Hopefully, that error has been corrected, so we can have breakfast on schedule each month.

The Fall Tour at Grand Lake is this month, on October 15-18, and we plan to have a grand time with our Tulsa Model A friends at Grand Lake. We are planning to tour Grand Lake, the Grand River dam, Zena’s Alpaca Farm, Harber Village, and the beautiful Lendonwood Gardens, where the Japanese maple trees promise to be in full Fall Foliage glory with their wide variety of colors.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Club meeting on October 25th at 2pm, at the Will Rogers Garden Center. The Refreshment Committee seems to be in transition, so if anyone would like to bring refreshments, please feel free to do so. Plates and flatware will be provided.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

Summer has been so hot, but we are hoping that we will soon have cooler days to enjoy our Model A’s. Fall is coming, and it will be good to get out in the cooler weather.

Saturday, September 12th, is the Western Days Parade in Mustang. Line-up is at 8:30 and the parade starts at 10am.

We will vote for next year’s officers and directors at the September club meeting. Contact Don if you would like to serve or if you’d like to nominate someone.

The Board Meeting is on the first Tuesday of each month. The Ladies Lunch is on the second Tuesday of each month. The Club meeting is on the fourth Sunday of each month.

We have another parade next month, the Czech Festival Parade in Yukon, on October 3rd, the first Saturday in October.

The Fall Tour is on October 15-18. The details and the registration forms are now available in the Scuttlebutt.

Thank you to everyone for all your assistance to the Club.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

It has been very hot lately, but some of us are driving our Model A’s anyway, so we thought you might enjoy this video again, (repeated from last August).

The first song is “Let’s Spend the Day in my Model A.”

We are having breakfast at Bella’s Kitchen at 9:00am on August 15th. We were there after the Christmas parade in the OKC Stockyards, and it was really good. It is located at SW 59th Street and Agnew in OKC.

We will be having our annual Watermelon Social at the August meeting at the Will Rogers Garden Center on August 23rd. The President will be bringing the watermelon.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

July 2026

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

June was a busy month for us. The first meeting for the newly-established Ladies Lunch was enjoyable for all who were able to attend. The Ladies Lunch is on the second Tuesday of each month. Please let Lois know if you are attending as the Tea Room requires reservations.

The meeting of the car clubs at Don Sable’s shop was a success, with lots of different cars and people, and food, and we were inside his air-conditioned shop. The Harn Homestead event was another hot day, but we found shade. The Great Race came thru Stockyards City, and plenty of us were there to help and watch all the cars that were participating.

In July, we have two parades on Independence Day, and all are invited to Phil & Kay’s house for lunch afterwards. We decided to go to Incredible Pizza last week, but we all assumed they would be open as usual. Fortunately, we are flexible and were able to find another place to enjoy food and fellowship.

The Scuttlebutt will be out soon. Our Editor is traveling with her laptop, but the laptop has decided to quit working, so the Scuttlebutt is being processed at the local public library while waiting for the new laptop. Hooray for public libraries.

The Club Meeting is on Sunday, July 26th, and we will talk about the exciting activities coming up. The July meeting on Sunday is our annual ice cream social, so please be sure to bring your favorite ice cream to share.

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

It was fun driving over to Drumright to meet our friends in the Tulsa Club for lunch, and afterwards we saw the history of Drumright in the Historical Society Museum. We had great weather for the Armed Forces Day parade in Del City. We were very happy to see our newest members, Tommy & Terri, and also Peter, at the club meeting. On the last Saturday in May, we had two activities, the Route 66 Capital Cruise Centennial Parade and the Route 66 display at the Warr Acres Library. As you know, we don’t usually have two activities on the same day, but it seemed to work out ok. We probably have more activities than usual because of the 100-year anniversary of Route 66. It seems like everybody wants to celebrate our Model A’s.

June is probably not quite as busy, but it will be close. The meeting of the car clubs is at Don Sable’s shop on June 6th; the Ladies Lunch is on June 9th; and we will be touring the Harn Homestead on June 13th. The Great Race is coming through Stockyards City, and we will be helping with parking the cars on June 22nd. The Early V-8 Club will be joining us at the Harn Homestead, and also at the Great Race parking event. The Club Meeting will be on June 28th at the Will Rogers Garden Center. Reminder messages will be sent about some of the upcoming activities. If you are not receiving the email messages, please let us know.

We hope to see you soon, somewhere along the Model A road. Visitors are always welcome to join us.

May 2026

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

The Spring Tour was real exciting, especially when the tornado showed up on Thursday night. Some of us were outside, under the portico of the hotel, watching it coming our way and taking pictures. It turned, however, and continued on down the street to Vance Air Force Base and did some damage to Vance and the surrounding neighborhoods. Our tour of Vance AFB was cancelled, of course, due to all the damage. Luckily, the Model A’s had no damage from the tornado.

The weather forecast reported that more severe weather was coming and some of the tour attendees became concerned about additional tornados that might show up, and they went home the next day. The weather was very nice and tornado-free for the rest of the tour, for which we were very thankful. All the remaining scheduled activities had no issues, and there was some discussion about putting together a day trip to go visit Vance Air Force Base. Vance AFB will probably be closed for a while, for the cleanup and repairs, but we will let you know if and when a plan for a tour becomes available.

The Club Meeting will be at the Will Rogers Garden Center on May 24th in Room 1, at 2:00pm. There will be reminder messages going out on email about our other upcoming activities. If you are not receiving the email messages, please let us know.

We hope to see you soon, somewhere along the Model A road. Visitors are always welcome to join us.

April 2026

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

April is here, with the warmer weather and our Happy Easter treats and the chance of storms. We are looking forward to our April activities. The 89er Day Parade in Guthrie is on April 18th at noon, and we’ll have lunch at Simone’s Diner after the parade. The following Monday, April 20th, is the Tune-Up Day. Don and Chuck, in their trips to Enid to arrange the Spring Tour, have found a lot of great activities for us. The tour is in Enid on April 23-26, and we have a packed schedule and some optional places to go on our own. On the way home from the Spring Tour, we hope to see you at Johnnie’s, on Britton Road in the Village, for the club meeting.

The smaller meeting room at the Will Rogers Garden Center seems to be working well for us. We will be meeting at Johnnies in April because there is a flower show at the Garden Center on our meeting day. In May, the club meeting will be back at the Will Rogers Garden Center.

Please mark your calendars for May 9th. We are meeting the Tulsa Club at Joseph’s Fine Foods in Drumright for lunch. After lunch, we are scheduled for a very interesting tour at the Drumright Historical Museum to learn the history of that area of the state. The following week, May 16th, is the Armed Forces Day Parade in Del City.

If you have any suggestions for activities or a speaker or demonstrations, please let us know and we will find out if it can be arranged. We hope to see you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

March 2026

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. We are hoping that you can join us for the first parade of the year, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, in Stockyards City on March 14th. We have lots of activities this month, and a lot more scheduled for the Spring and Summer, and we look forward to seeing you at some of them.

Our club meeting in January was cancelled because of the weather. The meeting in February was in the smaller room at the Will Rogers Garden Center. We had a few visitors and a lot of club members there, and most of us thought the smaller room made it a lot easier to talk to each other. Chuck was surprised that he ran out of coffee. He said he would bring more coffee in the future. It will be exciting to see what happens at the March meeting.

Don and Chuck are continuing to plan for the Spring Tour. They discovered there is an AACA Club in Enid, and their members will be visiting with us on our first night there, and we will have the opportunity to see their cars while we are in Enid for the Spring Tour. We hope you can join us. The schedule is in the Scuttlebutt, along with the information about how to register. The complete driving directions for the tour will be available in our meeting room at the hotel.

Gayle had to give up her position as Vice-President due to some health issues, and Don has agreed to fill the Vice-President position for the rest of this year. If you have any suggestions for activities or demonstrations, please let us know. We hope to see you somewhere along the Model A road.

February 2026

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

Happy Valentines Day. We hope you can join us on the day after Valentine’s Day, February 15th, at Incredible Pizza. So far, it looks like Sunday will be a bright sunny day with no rain or snow.

At the club meeting on February 22nd, Count Gregore will give a presentation and then he will let us help him celebrate his 98th birthday. It should be very interesting and a lot of fun, and we will be having birthday cake.

Last month, we enjoyed visiting the Interpretive Center in Chandler. It was cold and windy, but we were mostly inside looking at all the exhibits and learning about the history of Route 66 in the building that used to be a National Guard Armory. We had lunch afterwards at the restaurant/bowling alley/former gas station with plenty of gas station signs in the parking lot. It was very interesting.

Don and Chuck have finalized the plans for the Spring Tour, April 23-26. There will be a lot to see in the Enid area, so we hope you can join us. The schedule is in the Scuttlebutt, and information about how to register is included. The driving directions for the tour will be available in the meeting room at the hotel.

Next month, in March, we have a few activities to enjoy in the Oklahoma City area, including the St Patricks’ Day Parade in Stockyards City, Bob Wills Day at the State Capitol, and the annual Chisholm Trail celebration in Kingfisher, which includes the chuckwagon (with the free samples) at The Chisholm.

We are still on the lookout for interesting topics for the club meetings, so please let us hear your ideas. We are looking forward to seeing you soon, at some meeting or event or parade or somewhere for lunch. Happy Valentines Day to all.

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

Happy New Year. Thank you to everyone for your support and participation in another successful year. We are looking forward to 2026 and plan to drive in some parades, and we will have a few day drives to interesting places, and of course, some good food.

We would love to see all of you at the meetings and events. If you have any suggestions for our meetings or tours, please let us know. The new board for 2026 is listed on the front page of the Scuttlebutt, and we appreciate each person for offering their time and experience to the board.

The 2026 dues are now due, at the same price, only $20.00 per year. As you may have heard, we will be meeting in Room Number 1 at the Will Rogers Garden Center, on the 4th Sunday.

November and December were good times for the Model A’s in the parades. The Veterans Day parade in Blanchard was fun and had great weather. It was very cold on the day of the Cowboy Christmas Parade in Stockyards City, but there were big crowds and lots of participation. We had eight Model A’s in the parade and a great lunch at Bunny’s Onion Burger afterwards. There were seven cars and 10 people at Bubba’s to help them celebrate the end of Prohibition, and they provided us with a great lunch.

We wrapped up the year with 43 people registered at the Christmas party. Everyone enjoyed the food from Earl’s BBQ and we had fun playing Dirty Santa. Thank you to everyone who helped decorate the room. It looked very festive.

Sadly, we lost a few people last year. No one is here forever, but we enjoyed our time with them while they were here. We never know what the future holds, but we will enjoy our fellowship and our cars while we can.

2026 is the 59th year for the Sooner Model A Club, and we are looking forward to having another fun year. Please come and join us if you can.

November 2025

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Thank you for your support. I was very happy to find out that you are going to let me serve as President for next year, the 59th year of existence for the Club. Call me or text me or come to a meeting or a parade, and let me know how you want to Model A. The board has been discussing a few road trips that everyone might like, so we have a lot of potential plans for next year.

We still have a few activities for this year. The Czech parade and the Fall Tour in October were a lot of fun, with great weather and plenty of participation. The Polar Express train tickets, donated by Steve Davis, were auctioned at the October club meeting. Many thanks to Steve for the donation.

In November, we have the Veterans Day Parade in Blanchard. The Dallas Club has invited us, again this year, to join them on the Lake Murray State Park tour on November 14-16. Bob & Linda Stine are leading a caravan to Lake Murray Lodge. The aircraft museum tour is at the El Reno Airport on Nov 15th, and we will have lunch at Eischen’s after the tour. The Club meeting, on the following day, Nov 16th, is our annual Beans and Cornbread meeting.

The Cowboy Christmas parade in Stockyards City will be on December 6th. The Christmas Party, on Dec 14th, will be catered by Earl’s, and is $10.00 per person for members and guests. We will play Dirty Santa afterwards. The deadline for payment is Dec 1st, and the treasurer is also collecting next year’s dues.

The Club meetings for 2026 are changing to the 4th Sunday, and will be held in Room #1 at the Will Rogers Garden Center. The room is directly across the hall from where we have been meeting. The meeting time is still at 2:00pm, every month except for April and December. We hope to see you soon, on the Model A road.

October 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

Hello and welcome to the Sooner Model A Club newsletter for October. I am looking forward to talking with you about what you would like to do for next year. You can call or text or come to any of the monthly meetings or one of the parades.

We were very happy to have good weather and a great turnout for the Czech Festival Parade in Yukon. The Board Meeting was well-attended and there were lots of discussions and suggestions.

The Fall Tour is starting on October 16th. Don and Chuck are currently reviewing all the details and checking with the facilities we will visit to make sure we have a great tour. The tour will terminate on the19th, just in time for the club meeting at the Will Rogers Garden Center at 2pm. We plan to play Card Bingo after refreshments.

Chuck has been talking with the Garden Center about their availability for our meeting schedule next year. It has been agreed that we can meet in the smaller room (Room 1) on the fourth Sunday of each month, except for April. The fourth Sunday had the most number of times we could meet.

Don and Chuck are also scouting locations for the Spring Tour next year, so please let them know if you have any suggestions or would like to help with the planning.

The Club Christmas Dinner is on December 14th at 2pm. The cost is $10.00 per person, and the Club will pay the balance. We need to have reservations to get an accurate count for the caterer, so the payment deadline for Christmas dinner is December 1st. We also have annual dues of $20.00 due by the end of the year.

Its always Happy Trails on the Sooner Model A Road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

September 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

There is not a scheduled club meeting at the Will Rogers Garden Center in September. Chuck has been meeting with the Scheduling Department at the Garden Center to determine the best opportunities for us to have our monthly meetings next year. There will be more information about what our meeting schedule will be for 2026 in the October Scuttlebutt.

Although we do not have a club meeting in September, we are still enjoying some great activities. The Western Days parade had very good weather and there were a lots of people there to celebrate.

Don Mitchell arranged a great tour to celebrate International Model A Day. Eight Model A’s met at the Land Run Statues in Bricktown and drove to the Firemen’s Museum, then we had lunch at Bedlam Barbeque, and then we drove to the Railroad Museum. We’re not sure how Don was able to arrange the great weather, but we appreciate everything that Don does for the club.

In MAFCA news, Kerry and Wanda Steffens have received a pin for 30 years of membership, and Ralph & Connie Hudson have received a 40 year membership pin. Congratulations to Kerry and Wanda for 30 years, and congratulations to Ralph and Connie for 40 years. MAFCA is a wonderful organization and very supportive of the local chapters in the preservation and enjoyment of Model A’s.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

This video was sent to Chuck by a Model A Club in New York, and we thought you might enjoy it. Click on the link below the picture.

Let’s Spend The Day In My Model “A” -

The Billy Vaughn Singers - 1969

There were lots of people and food at the car club picnic at Don Sable’s shop, and we had a great time visiting with everyone. The Ice Cream Social at the club meeting went ok until some of us tripped on the rock, but I have recovered. Thanks to everyone for your concern.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Chicken Shack in Arcadia for lunch on August 9th. The club meeting on the 17th of August is the Watermelon Social, and after refreshments we will have a presentation on Wills and Trusts.

Don Mitchell has prepared a plan for us to drive and have lunch on September 13th to celebrate International Model A Day. See details in this month’s issue of the Scuttlebutt.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

July 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July holiday, in spite of the hot weather and the rain. Rain was in the Edmond parade, but the Bethany parade was rain-free. Some of our members were also in the pre-4th of July parade at Bradford Village.

Saturday, July 12th at noon, is the Picnic at Don Sable’s shop, 7608 N Harvey in Oklahoma City. This event was re-scheduled from June, and Don said we would meet anyway, regardless of rain. There will be several other car clubs and plenty of food. We plan to have a good time and hope to see you there.

Sunday, July 20th is our monthly meeting and Ice Cream will be the main event, as is has been every July. We are looking forward to seeing you and eating all the great ice cream that will be available. After we have our ice cream, we will play Card Bingo.

If you are in the El Reno area, or passing thru, or taking a road trip, be sure to stop at The Filling Station to see the Model A of our Vice-President, Vonnie Meritt, which is on display during the month of July.

There are a few people on the Sunshine Report this month, so we wish for a quick recovery for all of them.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon, somewhere along the Model A road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

June 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

As I’m writing this message, it is raining again. I know we are all happy to see the full lakes and streams, but some of us have the kind of Model A where it rains inside the car as well as on the outside, and the Oklahoma weather usually includes storms with the rain. Because of the rain and stormy weather, we barely had enough board members for a quorum at the board meeting.

Due to the expectation of storms this weekend, the picnic and car club gathering, arranged by Don Sable, one of our members, has been postponed to July 12th. OKC Coffee & Cars and the Tulsa Club have also cancelled their Saturday activities because of the weather forecast.

Chuck and Don have been very busy with the planning of the Fall Tour on October 16-19. Everything is all arranged, and unless something changes in Norman, we are all set. The hotel information and the schedule are in this issue of the Scuttlebutt. The driving instructions will be released soon. Don and Chuck will continue to monitor the route, as you never know when there will be more road construction.

The Club Meeting for June will be at the neighborhood clubhouse of Terry & Judy Joy. We are having a neighborhood parade with the Model A’s at 1:30pm. The meeting and refreshments will be after the parade.

On June 22nd, we are meeting for lunch at Incredible Pizza on NW Expressway. The Club has been there several times, and we always have a good time eating and visiting.

In July, we are participating in the Independence Day Parades in Bethany and Edmond. Except for August, there is a parade in our schedule each month for the rest of the year. We are hoping to see you soon. Eventually, the rain will stop.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

May 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

We had a clear day for the scenic drive to the Corners of My Mind car collection in Weatherford. There were lots of cars to see there, and many western paintings and statues and other memorabilia.

22 Model A’s went to Ponca City for the joint Spring Tour with the Tulsa Club. We toured Marland Mansion, Conoco Museum, Pioneer Woman, Standing Bear Museum, the Poncan Theatre and lots of other historic places. The Model A’s were on display at the Stuteville Ford Dealer and there were quite a few people who stopped by in the rain to see them.

Eight Model A’s were in the 89er Day parade in Guthrie on April 19th. We thought there was going to be a lot of rain, and it sprinkled a little before the parade, but when the parade began, the sun came out and dried up the rain. Lunch at Simone’s Café afterwards was wonderful, as usual. The Simone’s staff was very attentive and even took a picture for us.

The Armed Forces Day parade is on May 17th in Del City. There was an airplane fly-by at the beginning of the parade last year, and we are hoping to see them again. The Club Meeting is on the following day, May 18th, at the Will Rogers Garden Center.

On June 7th, Don Sable has invited us to his shop, along with other car clubs, for a picnic and a meeting of the car clubs. All food will be provided by Don. The other car clubs include the Model T Club, the Studebaker Club, the Early V-8 Club, the Triumph Club, the MG Club, and there may be other car clubs not named here. This is an opportunity to see lots of other types of cars and to visit with some of the other car club members.

We hope to see you soon, at one or more of these activities or somewhere along the Model A road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

April 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

We do not have a scheduled club meeting in April. The April meeting happened to fall on Easter Sunday, so there will not be an April club meeting this month. However, the Board has planned some other April activities that may interest you.

We had a free tour of the Kingdom of David and Solomon exhibit on April 6th at the Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond. We are scheduled to drive our Model A’s in the 89er Day parade in Guthrie on April 19th, and the Club has reservations for lunch at Simone’s Café afterwards. The Spring Tour, hosted by the Tulsa Club, is April 24-27 in Ponca City, and the schedule is packed with all types of fun activities for us. If you can’t come for the entire tour, please think about driving up for a day trip.

March was very busy with the Model A’s. We were in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Stockyards City again this year. It was great to see some of the same familiar parade participants. The crowds along the streets are always very happy to see us. It was very cold that day, but everyone was bundled up and having a good time. The Tune-Up Day was very productive. We worked on lots of Model A’s, and I want to thank Greg for all his hard work. There were a couple of cars where the fix was not easily spotted, but Greg was extremely persistent about finding the problem and fixing it.

We are still looking for interesting topics for any of the club meetings, so please let us hear your ideas. We are looking forward to seeing you soon, at some meeting or event or parade or somewhere for lunch. Happy Easter to all.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

March 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

As March arrives, we are hoping the very cold weather is over. Even though it was cold and windy, there was an impressive turnout of Model A’s for the tour at Great Plains Cotton Gin last month. We had lunch afterwards at Nachitos Mexican Restaurant in Minco. Thank you to Greg and Sheryl for arranging the cotton gin tour and the lunch.

The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum requested a Model A for the Catholic Charities fundraiser at the Green Tie Gala, so Don volunteered to take his car over for the evening. Chuck was with him and took some pictures. The pictures are also on the Facebook page, and there was some speculation that the party was to honor Don, but that has not yet been confirmed.

We look forward to getting our Model A’s out again for three parades that we have planned for the Spring. First is the St. Partick’s Day parade in Stockyards City on Saturday, March 15th, then we have the 89er parade in Guthrie on April 19th, and the Armed Forces Day parade in Del City on May 17th. I hope everyone can participate in at least one or more of the parades. Driving the Model A in a parade is fun for us and it brings enjoyment to so many people.

The Spring Tour, hosted by the Tulsa Club, is scheduled for April 24 to 27 in Ponca City. The Tulsa Club has lots of activities planned for us. Information about the tour is included in this issue, so we can make our reservations and mark our calendars.

Thank you, everyone, for paying the $20.00 annual dues. The dues have remained at $20.00 for many years, even as our expenses keep going up. We hope to see you at an event, or a meeting, or somewhere along the Model A road.

Phil Wolfenbarger, President

February 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members,

In my second month as president, I am still trying to express my appreciation for all of you, which includes everyone who makes suggestions for activities and makes the arrangements, and everyone who attends the activities, and everyone who reads the Scuttlebutt. If you are participating in the activities or looking at the pictures, you are involved in the club. It is always enjoyable for us to get together to celebrate our common interest in the Model A Ford.

Last month, we had a great tour at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Gaylord Pickens Museum, and then we had lunch at The Mule in Midtown. It was very interesting to hear that Mr. Pickens and Mr. Gaylord were in some kind of contest of their own to have the biggest portrait and to donate the most money. The Mule was very busy and lots of people had the chance to enjoy looking at Model A’s.

On Saturday, February 15th, we have a tour scheduled at the Great Plains Cotton Gin in Minco, and lunch somewhere afterwards.

The Club Meeting is the day after, on Sunday, February 16th, and we have decided to have a Valentine Day theme and we will play Card Bingo after refreshments.

We are accepting ideas and suggestions for interesting tours and destinations, so let us know if you have any suggestions or would like to put on a demonstration of your choosing.

January 2025

Dear Sooner Model A Club members, Happy New Year. I hope all of you enjoyed the holidays and had your Christmas wishes come true. This is a new year with a new president and a new board for the Club. Vonnie, as Vice-President, has already arranged for a great tour at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Gaylord Pickens Museum on January 25th, and lunch afterwards at The Mule. David is the coordinator for demonstrations at the club meetings, so please contact David if you would like to do a demo or want to suggest a topic for a demo. At the November meeting, Joe and Chuck gave a terrific demonstration about the backup cameras they each have in their Model A’s. Our tour at the 99’s Museum of Women’s Pilots, on a cold and windy day, had eight Model A’s in attendance, and lunch at Bunny’s was wonderful, as usual. The Cowboy Christmas parade, in December at Stockyards City, had 13 Model A’s and the weather was perfect. While we were waiting for the parade to start, Jim had a flat tire that several of us, including me, participated in changing. Greg helped too, even though Hank had to be passed off to someone else temporarily. Luckily, Jim had a spare tire and didn’t have to borrow one from Chuck. We went to Bubba’s again on December 5th to help them celebrate the anniversary of the end of Prohibition. Many thanks go out to Greg and Sheryl and Don and Marilyn for setting up and decorating the tables for the Christmas party. I am looking forward to serving as president, and I will need some help to make sure everyone who wants to participate will have their chance. The Club is very fortunate to have so many people who are willing to share their abilities, and I am looking forward to all of the adventures we will have in 2025. I will doing a demonstration at the January meeting about the Model A body types, and I hope to see you there.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Before the end of the year, we have the Blanchard Veterans Day parade, the Oklahoma City Stockyards Cowboy Christmas parade, and the 99s Museum of Women Pilots tour. I know most of you will be able to get qualified for the 1,000 Mile patch before the end of the year. The form to register for qualification is on the web site. This will be the last Scuttlebutt for 2024.

The Sooner Model A Club Christmas Party is on Sunday at 2:00pm on December 15, 2024 at the Will Rogers Garden Center. This is our regular club meeting date but there will be NO meeting. We hope everyone can come to the Christmas Party. The cost is $10.00 per person and the club will pick up the remaining costs. Reservations must be made and paid for by 1 December to ensure the count for the caterer. Of course, we will play “Dirty Santa.” The “gifts” should cost less than $25.00.

This is also a good time to pay your $20.00 dues for 2025. Thank you, Steve Davis, for donating four tickets for the OKC Polar Express Christmas train, which were auctioned off at the October club meeting. The highest bidder was Greg Hoyle.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. I want to thank everyone for supporting me and the Sooner Model A Club these last three years. It has been a great pleasure to serve as your president, because this Club is a great way to help one another with our love for keeping our Model A’s on the road. We have found many friends who enjoy the same things we do. I know that all of you will support the new President and the new Board as we move forward into 2025.

October 2024

Congratulations to our newly elected Sooner Model A Club Officers and Board Members for 2025. I know that everyone will give them your complete support as you have for me the last three years. They are: President Phil Wolfenbarger, Vice-President Vonnie Meritt, Treasurer Chuck Dusenbery, Secretary Carla Newton, Editor Karen Dusenbery, Web Master Jim Yates, Director David Swain, and Director Joe Astafan.

We had a very interesting tour, arranged by Joe and Helene Astafan, to the Infant Jesus Shrine in Prague, Ok on Wednesday, September 18th. After the tour of the shrine, we had a great lunch at Mamaw’s Restaurant.

The picnic at Phil and Kaye’s house on Saturday, September 28th was attended by 30 people. There was plenty of food and it was great to see all of Phil’s Model A’s and so many of his other cars. Thank you, Phil and Kaye, for opening up your home on a unusually hot September day.

The Sooner Model A Christmas party is Sunday, December 15th at 2 PM at the Will Rogers Garden Center. This is our regular club meeting place and date, but there will be NO meeting. Our only purpose will be enjoying the Christmas Party. We hope everyone can make it. The cost is $10.00 per person and the club will pick up the remaining costs. Reservations must be made and they must be paid for by December 1st to ensure the count for the caterer. Of course, as usual, we will play “Dirty Santa.” The “Gifts” should cost less than $25.00. This is also a good time to pay your $20.00 dues for 2025.

We have 4 tickets for the OKC Polar Express Christmas train to auction off at the October club meeting. These tickets are for Sunday, 10 November 2024 and are donated by Steve Davis.

September 2024

I am looking forward to the Fall to enjoy our 1930 Model A Fordor. Fall is a great time to see the state we live in and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The weather is usually very cooperative, and all of us can have a fun time.

We have planned a trip on Wednesday, the 18th of September, to the Infant Jesus Shrine in Prague, OK. After the tour at the Shrine, we will have a great meal at Mamaw’s Café in Prague. As you know, we are an eating club that drives old cars. Thank you, Joe and Helene Astafan, for arranging this beautiful tour.

Next, we plan to have a picnic on Saturday, 21 September, at Phil Wolfenbarger and Kaye Sage’s house. They will provide Hot Dogs, and everyone can bring a dish to share. We have two parades coming up. The first parade will be finished when you receive this message, but I want to thank David Swain for arranging Mustang’s Western Days parade on Saturday, September 7th. The next parade, the Czech Parade, is on Saturday, the 5th of October, in Yukon, and thanks to Phil Wolfenbarger for setting this up.

The Fall Tour, planned and arranged by the Tulsa Model A Ford Club, to Van Buren, AR, is set for October 17 – 20, 2024. They have a fantastic tour planned for everyone. I know our regular Club meeting is at 2 PM on the 20th of October but we plan to be back in time for that meeting, as we plan to leave Van Buren very early. We discussed changing the meeting date, but it is difficult finding another date at the Will Rogers Garden Center because of the competition for the meeting rooms.

A warm welcome is extended to all Model A-er’s and friends to join us at our club meetings and/or one of our outings. The Board is always open to any new ideas or suggestions for future events. It takes involvement from everyone to make a successful Club. Thank you to everyone for all you have done for this Club.

August 2024

Welcome to the hot, lazy and hazy days of summer. For those of us who do not have air conditioning in their Model A, it is just too hot to ride around in now. We look forward to the Fall for wonderful trips to show off our Model A’s. We have a trip planned September 18th to the Infant Jesus Shrine in Prague. Additionally, there are two parades, the Western Days Parade on 7 September in Mustang and the Czech Festival Parade on 5 October in Yukon. The Fall tour, sponsored by the Tulsa Model A Ford Club, from 17 to 20 October 2024, had to change their destination due to storm damage and major construction in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Fall Tour will be in Van Buren, Arkansas. The dates are still 17 to 20 October and more information on the tour will be made available when finalized. See the Activities Schedule on page two for Hotel information and the deadline for hotel reservations. I want to thank the nominating committee members of Phil Wolfenbarger, Carla Newton and Jim Yates, for doing the very important and difficult task of finding the willing and dedicated candidates to move this club into 2025. The candidates are as follows: President - Phil Wolfenbarger, Vice-President - Vonnie Meritt, Secretary - Carla Newton, Treasurer - Chuck Dusenbery, Editor - Karen Dusenbery, Webmaster - Jim Yates, Director - David Swain, Director - Joe Astafan. The nominees will be announced at the August meeting and voted on at the September meeting. Also, I want to thank Joe Astafan for continuing to do the very important job of membership and running the registration and 50/50 pot for each meeting. Thank you, Kaye Sage, for providing our club activities for the Restorer Magazine and keeping up to date on the Sunshine committee with the get well cards and sympathy cards. We hope to see you soon. Don Mitchell

July 2024

We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July holiday, even with the 100 degree weather. We look forward to seeing everyone at our regular club meeting on Sunday, July 21 at 2 PM. The meeting is our ice cream social, and there will be a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings.

Due to the wildfires, the 2024 MAFCA National Tour to Ruidoso, NM was canceled. We were disappointed about not being able to go, but we are very thankful that there were no reports of injuries or loss of lives to the members of the Southwest Model A Ford Club. I know they put a lot of time and effort into the planning and arranging for this large event. There will be a lot of things for them to take care of after everything was canceled.

On the local front, your President and Vice-President are in their third term, and are term limited. We need to elect a new President and Vice-President. Phil Wolfenbarger was appointed to head up the nominating committee, and he will be looking for suggestions and/or volunteers for these or any other positions in the club. In order for the Club to be successful, it is important for everyone to contribute in their own way. We always need help in bringing the supplies needed for the refreshments, as well as set-up and break-down after the meetings.

The refreshments following our regular monthly club meetings have grown, and the Board has decided to scale back, like years ago, and simplify it with cookies or other similar snacks. We do need someone to be in charge and bring the paper supplies and utensils as well as setting up the refreshment table for the refreshments. Marilyn would like to give up this duty, after doing it for a number of years, and she would be willing to help whenever she is able. Please contact a Board Member for more information.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Welcome to Summer. I hope everyone survived the rash of tornadoes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are affected by the storms. Our next Model A Club event is Eischen’s Chicken at 2:30pm on Saturday, June 15th. Eischen’s address is 109 S Second St in Okarche. The monthly club meeting is on the following day, Sunday, 16 June 2024 at 2 PM at the Will Rogers Garden Center, 3400 NW 36th St in OKC. Sunday is also Father’s Day, and we wish a very Happy Father’s Day to the fathers.

We were disappointed that we had to cancel the Club’s picnic. We thought it would be best to cancel to due to the health of some of the organizers, and we thought it would be better to wait until it can be properly planned when Ripper Park is available. We are hoping to reschedule the picnic later this summer, and we will let everyone know the details.

The Tulsa Model A Ford Club announced that the Fall Tour will be in the Bentonville, Arkansas area, on October 17 – 20, 2024. Please mark the dates on your calendars. These tours are fun, and we enjoy having the opportunity to meet many old friends and make new friends with people who are interested in Model A’s. I hope to see everyone there, and we will have a great time.

June 23-28, 2024 is the National Model A Convention in Ruidoso, NM. There will be hundreds of Model A’s there. Some of our members will be there.

The MAFCA Free Membership Program continues for new first-time members to MAFCA. The membership is free for the first year and it includes the Restorer Magazine, a $50.00 value. Contact Chet Wojcik Jr, Membership Director, at membership@mafca.com.

Please plan to attend one of the 4th of July parades this year. They are in Bethany and Edmond, on the same morning, which is on Thursday, the 4th of July. This is a great way to show our Model A’s. More information on both parades will be in the Scuttlebutt.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

We wish all the mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. We hope you all are treated very special on your day by getting flowers, having a fabulous meal and/or getting together with family. Thank you for all that you do for everyone.

The joint Spring Tour with the Tulsa Model A Ford Club went well. We visited Fort Sill’s Auxiliary Museum, the Quad where the soldiers lived, and the storage area for the Museum, where we saw some of the original head-dresses and shields. Then we went to the cemetery where we saw Geronimo’s grave, and his family’s graves, and other graves from the various Indian tribes. We also visited the Museum of the Great Plains and the Comanche Museum. We made the drive to Frederick to see where the Abernathy boys came from and how they traveled to Washington D.C. and New York on horseback, then by car. The tornado warnings did not bother us as we only had interesting clouds and a little rain. We did have an unplanned bonus with a herd of Longhorn cattle that stopped traffic on our way to the Holy City of the Wichitas. They probably just wanted to look at the Model A’s, and wish they had one.

It is with sad regret that I have to report the passing of our longtime Model A member, Sharlotte Campbell. Sharlotte and Mike were very supportive of our Model A Club, and we were all very pleased to see Sharlotte at the Christmas party this past December. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and their family.

Now that the warmer weather is here, we should be able to drive our Model A’s to some exciting places even for a few hours or a day. If anyone has a suggestion or recommendation for a club activity, meeting topic, or if you want to present an interesting hobby or topic, please let me or a Board Member know.

April 2024

Welcome to all Model A’ers,

Thank you, Phil and Kaye, for hosting our Spring tune-up day on Saturday, 23 March. All cars that needed it were looked over and passed inspection. Thanks to Greg Hoyle for all his technical advice and hard work in getting it done. Also, thanks to Chuck Dusenbery for providing the coffee which kept us all going.

Our next events are listed in the Scuttlebutt. The Guthrie 89ers parade is on Saturday, April 20, 2024, and the Fall Tour to Lawton ( Fort Sill) and Frederick, OK is on the 25 – 28 April. We have 25 rooms signed up at the Hotel in Lawton. This should be fun, and we get to see our friends again from the Tulsa Model A Ford Club. We have added a new parade on May 11th. It is the Armed Forces parade in Del City.

Our Club has new business cards, thanks to Karen Dusenbery. These can be handed out to interested people, potential new members, or to businesses that support us with their advertising. The cards will be available at our April Club Meeting. The Board approved the member list that was sent out via email to all paid Model A Club members. The list is for member’s use only and is not to be passed out to any business or non-member. The board made the decision that this type of list would be easier to update and keep current, instead of a booklet that had to be manufactured by an outside source. Each mem-ber can print this if they want to, or it can be stored on the electronic devices on Books or Files or whatever program is used for PDF files. It is not possible to put the directory on the website because there is no longer a members-only page, and it would not be possible to keep it secured.

If anyone has an interesting topic (it doesn’t have to be Model A connected) for any of our meetings, please let us know and we will see if it can be arranged. We all look forward to seeing everyone soon, maybe at a meeting or some event this spring.

March 2024

Welcome to Spring

We look forward to getting our Model A’s on the road again. It was good to see a number of A’s turn out for the tour of The Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine on Saturday, the 24th of March 2024. There were 25 people there and afterwards we went to Jimmy’s Roundup Café for lunch. The Shrine is another big attraction for our city and we were very impressed with it.

Thank you, Phil Wolfenbarger, for the very informative talk about the electrical systems of our Model A’s at the February club meeting. Also, thank you to Phil and Kaye for hosting our Spring Tune Up Day at 9:00 AM at their house on Saturday, 23 March 2024. Afterwards we will go to Swadley’s for lunch at 11:30.

We have three parades planned so far for the Spring. First is the St. Patrick’s parade at the OKC Stockyards on Saturday, 16th March followed by lunch at Bunny’s Onion Burgers on S. Meridian Ave. The second parade is the 89er parade in Guthrie on April 20th. The third parade is the Armed Forces parade in Del City on May 4th. I hope everyone can participate in at least one or more of the parades. Being in parades is a fun way to show our cars.

The Spring tour, which we are hosting, is scheduled for 25 to 28 April 2024 in Lawton, OK. We plan to see museums in Fort Sill, Geronimo’s grave, Museum of the Great Plains, and the museums in Frederick and the Holy City of the Wichitas. Call the Hampton Inn at 2610 NW Cache Rd, Lawton, OK, (580)-355-8200 by April 11th for reservations at our special rate.

Thank you, everyone, for paying your $20.00 annual dues. We appreciate your helping us keep the Club’s roster up to date and your dues pays for some of our expenses, such as the rental of our meeting space at the Will Rogers Garden Center. All club members donate time and money for the enjoyment of seeing the Model A’s. Nothing happens unless everyone participates. We are always open to new ideas or events.

February 2024

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone.

It is that time of the year when we can expect some nice days to get our Model A’s out on the road. We plan to have a checkup day on Saturday, March 23rd at Phil’s house. Greg will be there to diagnose and oversee what needs to be done. No major work like oil changes, head gaskets, or major brake work will be done that day. It will be an opportunity to check our cars for summer driving. Phil is going to supervise and advise.

On Sunday, our February 18th meeting will feature a Burtz-Block set up by Greg Hoyle.

A Saturday morning tour is planned for the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine. The tour will be on Saturday, 24 February at 9 AM. The address for the Shrine is 700 SE 89th Street in Oklahoma City, west of Interstate 35 on SE 89th St. We will meet at the Shrine, and I have requested Tour Guides. The tour should last 1 to 2 hours. Then we can go to lunch.

On 16 March, we have the Stockyards St Patrick’s Day parade. This is a fun parade and maybe afterwards we can go back to Bunnies Onion Burger and see the Robot deliver our food.

April 25 to 28, the Spring Tour is planned with the Tulsa Model A Ford Club to go to Fort Sill and see some of the Historic landmarks, as well as Geronimo’s grave site and the U. S. Army Artillery Museum. On day two, we will drive to the Wildlife Refuge and Holy City Chapel; then on to Frederick, where we will have lunch and learn more about the Abernathy Boys.

On Saturday, May 11th, the Tulsa Model A Ford Club invited us to join them at the Gathering Place. More information about this will be coming soon.

Take care, and we hope to see everyone soon.

Don Mitchell, President

January 2024

Happy New Year Thank you everyone for your participation and support in another successful year. We look forward to 2024 and plan to have a number of parades, tours and visits to senior centers in Oklahoma. Hope everyone can participate in showing off their cars and, of course, visiting and having some great food. We would love to see all of you at the meetings and events. If you have any suggestions for our meetings, tours, parades, etc, please let the Board know.

Our bank account received some nice increases from the efforts of several members. Our thanks go to Phil Wolfenbarger, who donated his time, money and work in making our new name badges; Paul McNutt, who donated a battery that was raffled off; Steve Davis, who donated the Polar Express Train tickets that were auctioned off. These three, plus all the efforts by our members let us keep our dues the same, at $20.00 per year. With that said, the 2024 dues are due now if you have not yet paid them.

I would like to personally thank all of you for the help in setting up and taking down the tables and chairs for the meetings, plus providing food and drinks for the meetings. I have tried to find the words to let you know how much I appreciate you, but mere words are inadequate. Some come in early and some stay late, and some do extra tasks, but all are helpful.

December was a great time for getting together. For the Christmas Stockyards Parade, we had 8 cars and a great meal at Bunny’s Onion Burger afterwards. Then we had another 8 cars and 15 people at Bubba’s, and they provided us with a great lunch. Then, we wrapped up the year with 41 people registered at the Christmas party. I think everyone enjoyed the food from Earl’s BBQ and had fun playing Dirty Santa.

For the past two years, Jerry Phillips as Treasurer and Greg Hoyle as Director, did outstanding jobs and I want to thank them personally for the support and work they did for our club. We want to welcome our new Treasurer, Kay Lee Meritt, and our new Director, Joe Astafan. I know they will do a great job.

Finally I want to thank the talented members of our club who are very generous about sharing their knowledge, time and expertise in helping the novice Model A’ers. This, I think, is a huge reason this club has been around for over 55 years, going into our 57th year.

GREETINGS TO ALL Model A’ers,

We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as well as a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Since there will be NO December Scuttlebutt or meeting, I want to thank the Board members and everyone who helped make this past year a very good year for our Sooner Model A Club.

At our October Club meeting, we had the drawing for the 6-volt battery donated by Paul McNutt and it was won by Steve Davis. Also, at the meeting, Steve Davis donated two tickets for the Oklahoma City Polar Express train ride on Friday, 10 November. The tickets were auctioned off and eventually won by Jim and Gayle Keene. Thank you to everyone for making these events beneficial to the club.

Vice-President Phil Wolfenbarger had his 3-D printing machine working overtime and has created some very nice Model A car name tags with your First name on it which is large enough to see. These are for sale at $5.00 each, of which Phil is donating all the proceeds to the club. This is a great bargain for these very nice name tags. The sign-up sheet for the name tags will be at the regular club meetings.

The October Club meeting had the very informative and entertaining movie, “Stop On a Dime.” It told you everything you would want to know about brakes, and more. Thank you, Vonnie Meritt, for providing it and thanks to Ken Corder and Phil Wolfenbarger for setting up and running the show.

In December, we have the Stockyards Christmas Parade on Saturday, 2 December with line-up at 9 AM. On Thursday, the 7th of December, we show our Model A cars at Bubba’s restaurant from 11:30 to 2:30. A free lunch is included at Bubba’s. The Christmas Party is Sunday, the 10th of December, at 2 PM at the Will Rogers Garden Center. Earl’s will cater the dinner again and we will play Dirty Santa. If you want to play Dirty Santa, bring a wrapped gift costing no more than $20.00, and people can pick any wrapped gift they want or take one from someone else. The cost is $25.00 per person for the Christmas party. We need to have the final payment and count by the November 28th Club meeting. So, bring your checkbook to the November Club meeting to pay for your 2024 dues and the Christmas party.

DON’T FORGET THE JANUARY CLUB MEETING IS SUNDAY, 21 2024 AT 2 PM.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Don Mitchell, President

October 2023

Welcome to Fall, We had a great Fall Tour of Guthrie and OKC with the Tulsa Model A Club and a few people from Texas and Kansas. It was a busy time, but I think everyone enjoyed the tour in our backyard. We all enjoyed showing off some of the important places we have here in Oklahoma City, and we had the chance to learn some more history.

Thank you, Vonnie and Kay Lee Meritt, for making the hats and donating them. Thanks to Jim, of the Dallas Club, for wearing his hat for the entire tour. Thank you also, to Chuck and Karen Dusenbery, for their tireless work on this tour.

Don’t forget that we are changing the club meetings to the 3rd Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM, starting in January. The meeting in January 2024 will be on January 19th. Remember to pay your dues of only $20.00 per year for the family. It is a bargain.

The Christmas party is Sunday, the 10th of December, at 2:00pm at the Will Rogers Garden Center. Earls’ will cater the dinner again, and of course we will play Dirty Santa. The cost is $25.00 per person for the Christmas party. So please bring your check books to the October Club meeting to pay for your dues and the Christmas party.

We averaged around eight Model A’s at the Yukon Parade, the Mansions Retirement Home, and at the Baptist Retirement Home. Everyone is welcome to attend these events. People enjoy seeing and talking about our Model A’s. Our next parade is the Veteran’s Day parade in Blanchard on Saturday, November 11th. Line up is at 9:30 at 10th and Main, across from the church.

The Board is open to all volunteers and/or suggestions for any upcoming meeting or event. I want to thank everyone who has ever provided food or drinks, or worked at setting up and taking down the table and chairs for each meeting.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the next activity.

Don Mitchell, President

September 2023

Greetings All,

We can’t wait for the cooler weather, and we are hoping for the possibility of driving our Model A’s more in parades and tours this Fall. We had 13 people at our Saturday breakfast at Simone’s in Guthrie. The food was great, and we will be there again for lunch on the Fall tour.

We are changing our monthly Club meetings back to the third Sunday of the month, starting in January 2024. So, the first Sunday club meeting will be on 21 January 2024 at the Will Rogers Garden Center. We hope this will increase our monthly meeting attendance. We would love to see all of you at our club meetings.

Our Fall Tour to Guthrie and OKC is on Sunday, 8 October to Wednesday, 11 October, and the planning is progressing well. We have 26 registrations and look forward to seeing many old friends again.

Please plan to attend our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 at 2PM at the Will Rogers Garden Center. The cost is $25.00 per person. The food will be from Earl’s BBQ, featuring Smoked Turkey with all the fixings. Of course, we will play Dirty Santa again. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Don Mitchell, President

August 2023

Greetings to All,

It has been a hot and stormy August so far, which makes it a little bit difficult to get out in the Model A, but we know the cooler weather is on the way and we will have more trips in the A after all the heat subsides.

We were very pleased to have ten people for the train ride at the Oklahoma Railway Museum. Don’t forget about our Club meeting on 22 August and Breakfast at Simone’s on 26 August. We will have watermelon at the August meeting.

The Sooner Club is sponsoring the joint tour with the Tulsa Model A Ford Club on 8-11 October. We will be visiting some very exciting venues in Guthrie and Oklahoma City. We are always awed and impressed with the great participation of Tulsa club members.

The cooler weather is on the way. In September, we have the Mustang Western Days parade, and we are visiting the museum and taking the trolley ride in El Reno. At the September club meeting, we will have the vote on the club officers for 2024. In October, we are looking forward to the Czech Parade in Yukon, the Fall Tour, and the Mansions Car Show with the free lunch. At the Mansions last year, Terry Joy won the prize.

There was some discussion at the board meeting about changing the meeting day back to a Sunday afternoon. We want to accommodate as many of our members as possible, but we will need your input. If you have any suggestions, please attend a board meeting and let us know.

We are looking forward to seeing you at one of our events.

Don Mitchell, President

July 2023

Welcome to our Summer weather.

We participated in two 4th of July parades this year. There were large crowds at both the Bethany and Edmond parades. Thanks to Phil Wolfenbarger for making the arrangements for the Bethany parade on Saturday, 1 July, where we had seven Model A’s. Thanks to Jim Yates for making the arrangements for the Edmond Liberty Fest parade on Tuesday, 4 July, where we had nine Model A’s. Thank you to all of you who participated. It is a good way to show our cars.

The Model A’s that went to Robbers Cave on 23 – 25 June had a busy weekend with two of the cars having starter problems. Thanks to Chuck Dusenbery, one was fixed there. Push-starting the other one got it going, and it was not turned off until it arrived home. It was later diagnosed and fixed with a new 6-volt battery cable. That is the life of the Model A’er. All five of us received a Top Five Award from the 12th Annual Antique Tractor Show. It was a great experience.

We are planning to visit the Oklahoma Railway Museum on Saturday morning, 5 August 2023. The train ride is 45 minutes long and it LEAVES at 11:15. The cost for the ride is $12. We plan to go in railroad car B which has air conditioning. We can take our chances and buy our tickets that morning because we have to be there earlier to see the museum, which is free. Or, if you wish, you can go online to OK Railway Museum and purchase a reserved seat for $12. The Museum is located at 3400 NE Grand Blvd, OKC. We should be there by 10:15 to get our tickets and look around. You can drive your Model A or if the weather is too hot, your modern car. Thank you, Steve Davis, for telling us about this wonderful Oklahoma City gem.

Our July 25th meeting is our ICE CREAM social. Everyone brings some type of ice cream or something to go with it. So there will be a great variety, and probably lots of it, as usual.

Don’t forget to register for the Fall Tour to Guthrie and OKC on 8 to 11 October. Even if you don’t stay at the Hotel, please send in your registration so we know how many are coming to each event. We would love to see you even if it is for only one day.

As always, we are open to any suggestions for activities at the meetings or driving the Model A’s.

June 2023

Summer is here. We started off by enjoying a very nice picnic at Ripper Park. Of course, there was plenty of food. Thank you, Phil and Kaye, for setting it up, and thanks to Chuck for working the grill. The tour to Coffeyville, hosted by Tulsa Club, was outstanding. The town sure liked to display the dead bank robbers for all to see before they were buried. As usual, there was someone, like Mitchell, who had car problems, like running out of gas miles from anywhere. But thanks to everyone, we all got home safely.

At our May meeting we had a presentation by Anna Covey from VIP care on preventive care for seniors. Anna provided the refreshments and answered many questions people had. In June, we are planning to go to Robbers Cave State Park for an antique Tractor and Car show on Saturday, the 24th of June. Also, there is the Midwest Regional Meet on June 11 to 16 at Breckenridge, CO. In July, there will be two July 4th parades again this year. We will be able to participate in both parades this year because the Bethany Parade will be on Saturday, the 1st of July, and the Edmond Parade will be on Tuesday the 4th of July.

Since the 4th of July is a holiday, we have moved the Board meeting to the 2nd Tuesday of July, the 11th. We have planned an exciting tour of Oklahoma City and Guthrie for the 2023 Fall Tour. With the Fall Tour so close to home, everyone in the Sooner Club should be able to attend. It is always enjoyable and interesting to visit with everyone at the meeting hotel. Our annual Club Christmas party will be at 2pm on Sunday, the 10th of December at the Will Rogers Garden Center. Mark your calendar for a good time for all to start your holiday celebrations. As always, a great club has active participation of all its members. We want to include everyone and hope to see many of you at the various activities.

May 2023

WELCOME,

We had a very interesting Movie Night at our April meeting; thanks to Phil Wolfenbarger and Ken Corder for setting up and showing the movie about the Abernathy Boys and their adventures in Oklahoma. Joe and Helene provided the popcorn which set the mood for a fun movie. We are open to any other suggestions for future events.

Thank you Jim Yates for arranging the Guthrie 89er Parade and the lunch at Mr. Lu’s. It was a slow-starting parade but a lot of people were there. Phil Wolfenbarger and Jim Yates were again selected to carry dignitaries at the beginning of the parade. We common folks were further back at #48. But it was a lot of fun for all and a great parade.

By the time you receive this newsletter, we should have completed the Spring Tour to Coffeyville, KS with the Tulsa Model A Ford Club. They always put on a great tour and we always look forward to it. We are planning to have a get together and picnic at Ripper Park on 30th Street in Bethany, at 12:30 PM on Saturday the 20th of May. We will provide the hot dogs and everyone can bring a side dish or dessert.

In June, we are planning to go to Robbers Cave State Park for the Antique Tractor and Car Show on Saturday, the 24th of June. Also, there is the Midwest Regional Meet on June 11 to 16 at Breckenridge, CO.

In July, there will be two July 4th parades again this year. You will be able to participate in both this year because the Bethany Parade will be on Saturday, the 1st of July and the Edmond Parade will be on Tuesday the 4th of July. Since the 4th of July is a holiday we will move the Board meeting to the 2nd Tuesday of July, the 11th.

Our annual Club Christmas party will be at 2 PM on Sunday, the 10th of December at the Will Rogers Garden Center, so mark your calendar for a good time for all to start your holiday celebrations. As al-ways a great club has active participation of all of its members. We want to include everyone and hope to see many of you at the various activities.

April 2023

Hope for April Showers

We all hope to have some rain but not severe enough to interfere with our touring in our Model A’s. I know Jim Yates and Chuck Dusenbery are hard at work in getting our new Sooner Model A website up and running. They have put in many hours to get this done. Thank You!

Phil and Kaye have again graciously volunteered their garage at 9 AM for a tune up day on Saturday, 15th April. They will also provide a Hot Dog lunch. We hope to see everyone there to have their Model A checked and we look forward to visiting with everyone. Then next Saturday, the 22nd of April, we have the Guthrie 89er Parade, which is always fun. This is followed by our regular club meeting on Tuesday at 7 PM on the 25th of April where we plan to watch a very interesting movie.

The first weekend of May is our annual Spring Tour to Coffeyville, Kansas, on May 4-7, sponsored by the Tulsa Model A Club. It would be nice to see as many Model A’s as possible at one or all of these events. This is a good time of the year to get your Model A out on the road.

Please let me or any Board member know if you like the variety of programs that our monthly meetings are having. We are open for all suggestions. We are trying to make sure we have something for everyone. This also goes for tours and our visits to interesting places.

March 2023

Happy March to Everyone,

At our February club meeting, we had a very interesting geological talk on rocks by Herb Magley. He talked about the rose rock, which is only found in Oklahoma, and he had many cool looking rock samples, which we were able to look at in detail and handle as much as we liked. And what about those gold nuggets.

I hope everyone is doing well and surviving the winter blues. Spring is coming and the cold weather should be going away. It will be warming up soon and we can get our Model A’s out to drive around and see the sights.

We are looking forward to our next meeting, where we will have Model A Bingo after the business meeting. It was a great turnout at Bubba’s on 19 February. There were ten Model A’s and lots of people at the Stockyards City St Patricks Day parade on 11 March. We are always so impressed with the great crowds at the parades in Stockyards City.

We are looking forward to another Sunday event on Sunday, 19 March at Incredible Pizza on NW Expressway. These Sunday afternoon get-togethers are a good time to get the Model A’s out.

February 2023

Happy February, We missed our regular January club meeting due to the weather, but we are looking forward to the meeting on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00pm. Our guest speaker, Mr. Herb Magley, a Geologist, is scheduled to talk about “rocks,” especially some of those found in Oklahoma. We have also scheduled an early dinner at Bubba’s on Sunday, the 19th of February at 2 PM. Those of us who went to Bubba’s for “Prohibition Days” in December probably remember the food was outstanding. Since our last meeting, the Christmas party, we have been to the Chicken Shack in Arcadia to enjoy some wonderful fried chicken. We saw Franz’ outstanding private collection of license plates on Saturday, the 4th of February. Franz gave a very interesting and informative history about all the various license plates and the states from which they came. He had every state and about every year of license plates ever made covering all the walls and doors in his place. In March, we will again participate in the St. Patrick’s parade in the Stockyards on Saturday, March 11. After the parade, we are planning to have lunch at Bunny’s Onion Burger, which has the Feline Robot Waiter. I know we can’t wait to see this in action. For the March meeting, we plan to have a Model A bingo game with some prizes. That should be very interesting. We welcome everyone to come to enjoy and participate in the Sooner Model A Club activities. Besides listing activities in the Scuttlebutt, we try to send out notices via email. Thank you to all of you who renewed your club dues. We plan to update the club directory this Spring from this list. If you have any ideas or suggestions for other activities, please let me or one of the board members know. Don Mitchell, Sooner Model A Club President

January 2023

Dear Sooner Model A Club,

We hope all your Holidays were good. We had a very busy November and December. Thank you to all of our members who participated in the various activities. Some of the notable events were:

At the November Club meeting Sheryl Hoyle gave a wonderful presentation and a trip down memory lane about the houses in 1928 – 1931 and the ‘modern’ conveniences of the “ICE BOX.” Sheryl also explained how you could order a house from Sears or Montgomery Ward and build it yourself. Everything was precut and all the directions were included. There were many homes sold that way.

Then Phil Wolfenbarger scheduled our show of cars for the ‘End Of Prohibition” at Bubba’s restaurant. Bubba’s provided free lunches and dinners to all participants. We had a great turn out and wonderful food.

The Blanchard Veteran’s Day Parade on November 12th had seven cars and we were #3 in the lineup. We have never been that close to the front of any parade. The Stockyard parade on December 3rd was a cold day but we had a very good turnout of seven cars.

Thank you to Sheryl Hoyle and Kaye Sage for arranging the Club’s Christmas Party. A great time was had by all and I heard good comments about using the round tables. It was truly ideal for visiting and eating Earl’s smoked turkey, sliced brisket and pulled pork with all of the trimmings. Where can you go today for some great food and a good time for only $5.00? Chuck Dusenbery did a great job of restoring the original Sooner Model A Charter and wooden frame, which was displayed at our Christmas party.

Just a reminder that the club dues are $20 and due by 31 January 2023. If you have not paid your dues by then your name will be removed from the list because it is time to make a new directory.

The board is planning the 2023 activities and will welcome any new ideas or suggestions for club activities. We have planned a trip to the ‘CHICKEN SHACK’ at 11:30 on Saturday the 21st, at 212 East Highway 66, Arcadia. This is about one block beyond the Round Barn on Rt 66. We hope to have more lunch/dinners get togethers.
